Clipping is suited for horses in hard work throughout the winter, such as Hunting. It is simply removing, ‘clipping’ the winter coat for horses or ponies that are loosing condition due to getting too hot, sweaty or are struggling to do their work with a thick winter coat. It is best for horses that are stable kept as they will need extra rugs on to keep them warm, during both the day and night. This may need repeating thought the winter so the horse remains comfortable as is able to continue his work.
Generally horses don’t mind, however a sedation may be necessary from the vet to make a more nervous horse settle. This would need to be arranged by the owner.
The clip will be designed to accommodate the horse, which could be one of the following.
The horses may need clipping several times a season but must not be clipped after the 1st of February as their summer coat will have started to come through.
Ben offers a clipping service from September to February.
